Free nights and weekends electricity in Texas
A free nights and weekends plan gives you electricity at no charge during set hours, usually overnight and on weekends. You pay for that in the rest of the hours, at a higher price. Whether you come out ahead depends on one number: how much of your electricity you use in the free hours.

How to tell if a free-hours plan pays off
Put in the price the plan charges outside the free hours (it’s on the plan’s Electricity Facts Label) and the share of your use that falls inside the free hours. We compare it with the cheapest regular fixed-rate plan for your ZIP code.
Your smart meter data shows this on Smart Meter Texas. If you don’t know, try 20–40% for a typical home.
What the free-hours plan really costs you per kWh at 35% free usage.
Lowest fixed-rate price benchmark in Texas, at 1,000 kWh.
Of your use must fall in the free hours before the free-hours plan beats the regular one.
At these numbers the free-hours plan costs about $3 a month more than the regular-price benchmark.
Effective price = price outside free hours × (100% − free share). Base fees and monthly charges are not included. The regular-price benchmark comes from today’s Power to Choose plans for your ZIP. It interpolates independent minimum prices between published reference levels and may not represent one available contract. Recalculate from the actual EFL before choosing.

What are Just Energy’s free nights hours?
Just Energy advertises its Texas Free Nights plan with a nightly window of 9 PM to 7 AM, or ten hours. Its plan page describes a bill credit for energy charges during that window and says the energy charge includes delivery charges. A monthly base charge still applies.
Check the current Electricity Facts Label for the specific offer at your address: the daytime price, base charge, eligibility and contract terms determine whether it saves money. Do not assume every Just Energy plan or an older contract uses the same conditions. The provider’s advertised offer may not appear in the Power to Choose listings above.

- work nights, or are away most weekdays and home on weekends
Usually doesn’t if you…
- work from home or have people home during the day
- run air conditioning hard on summer afternoons and evenings, outside the free hours
- can’t shift usage and just hope the free hours cover enough
